§ 2-1. Chief of police.

  • (a)

    There is hereby created the position of city chief of police. Such city chief of police shall have no term of office, but shall serve at the will and pleasure of the city council.

    (b)

    The chief of police shall be a peace officer as defined in Texas Code of Criminal Procedure art. 2.12, with all the powers and duties conferred upon peace officers under the laws of the state.

    (c)

    The chief of police shall hold a certificate as a qualified law enforcement officer from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education as provided in Texas Government Code ch. 415, unless serving under a temporary or probationary appointment as provided in said Act.
