§ 9-1. Filing fees for election.

  • All candidates seeking office for any city election shall file their affidavit for such election and pay a filing fee. The fee amount is $500.00 and is applicable to all elected positions on the city council including the mayor. The fee charged shall also be paid by any persons or persons that cause an election to take place by virtue of submission of an instrument including but not limited to a petition, as allowed by charter or applicable state or federal laws. A filing fee need not be paid if an election is caused as a result of the passage of any ordinance at the discretion of the city council. The filing fee will be used by the municipality to offset the costs of the election including but not limited to the following: purchase or rental of voting machines, labor, goods, materials, professional services, promotion, advertising, postage, transportation, copying, legal fees and education. Pursuant to Texas Election Code 143.005, any candidate seeking office for any city election is not required to pay the specified filing fee if the candidate follows the procedure within this section.
